A New Measure of Forbearance
How to measure forbearance?
Forbearance is a positive character trait that refers to the ability to endure difficult circumstances, such as tolerance of provocation without responding in annoyance or anger. For our well-being, it's important for us to understand our forbearance level.
Forbearance Scale with 16 items (FS-16) was first developed to measure an individual's level of forbearance, with a four-factor structure:

1) Overlook Others’ Misdeeds;
2) Tolerance & Acceptance;
3) Emotional Calmness, and
4) Self-Restraint.
Short form of FS (FS-9) with nine items was later developed for user's convenience, with a three-factor solution:
1) Overlook Others’ Misdeeds;
2) Tolerance & Acceptance; and
3) Emotional Calmness.
